Advantages of DC Electric Arc Furnace
DC electric arc furnace, as a steelmaking electric arc furnace powered by DC power supply, works similarly to AC electric arc furnace. It generates heat through the arc between the electrode and the furnace charge (or molten pool) to achieve the purpose of melting steel or alloy. However, compared to traditional AC arc furnaces, DC arc furnaces exhibit a series of significant advantages:
1. Stable and concentrated arc: The arc generated by the DC arc furnace is more stable and concentrated, which promotes good stirring of the molten pool, makes the temperature distribution inside the furnace more uniform, and thus reduces the erosion of the furnace lining.
2. Low impact on the power grid: Due to the small fluctuations in current and voltage, the impact of DC arc furnaces on the power grid is correspondingly reduced, which not only extends the service life of cables but also improves the overall stability of operation.
3. Low electrode loss: DC arc furnaces consume 50% less electrodes per ton of steel than AC arc furnaces, thanks to the stability and efficiency of their arcs, thereby reducing electrode loss.
4. Zero point fluctuation of arc: DC arc does not pass through zero point, avoiding periodic ignition and extinguishing phenomena, ensuring the continuous stability of the arc.
5. High thermal efficiency with fixed polarity: In a DC arc furnace, the graphite electrode serves as the cathode and the bottom electrode serves as the anode, with fixed polarity. This design concentrates most of the heat generated by the arc on the anode (i.e. charge), improving thermal efficiency.
6. Single electrode interference free: DC arc furnaces usually use a single electrode, and the arc burns vertically at the center of the furnace, avoiding interference and power transfer between the three phases, making the melting process more stable.
7. Uniform electrode erosion: The graphite electrode of the DC arc furnace is only eroded at the end, forming circular pits. This uniform erosion method helps to extend the service life of the electrode.
8. No skin proximity effect: DC arc does not have skin and proximity effects, which makes the current distribution more uniform and improves the melting efficiency.
9. Accurate measurement of voltage drop: DC arc furnaces can accurately measure the voltage drop of each section, which helps to better control the melting process.
10. The anode effect has a significant thermal effect: under the same current, the heat generated by the anode effect is almost three times that of the cathode effect, which is very beneficial for heating the furnace charge.
11. Good stirring effect of molten steel: The stirring effect of DC arc furnace on molten steel is far superior to that of AC arc furnace, which makes the composition of molten steel more uniform and improves product quality.
In addition to the body of the typical DC electric arc furnace, it also includes power supply, control system, furnace bus bar, furnace bottom anode and other equipment. At the same time, it shares many similarities with ultra-high power AC arc furnaces, such as scrap preheating equipment, oxygen combustion nozzles, water-cooled oxygen guns, water-cooled furnace walls and covers, feeding equipment, electrode lifting mechanisms, bottom blowing systems, dust removal equipment, and eccentric furnace bottom tapping devices. These common devices and technologies support the efficient application of DC electric arc furnaces in the field of steelmaking.

Ladle refining of refining furnace, also known as off-furnace refining, is a process in which molten steel, after primary refining in a converter or electric furnace, is transferred to a ladle for secondary refining. This process involves deoxidation, desulfurization, composition adjustment, and temperature control.
