Steelmaking Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) is a steelmaking equipment that uses the heat generated by electric arc discharge to heat the charge for melting.
It generates an arc in the furnace and uses the high temperature of the arc to directly heat the charge, so that the steelmaking process can be carried out.
The electric arc furnaces is usually composed of a large cylindrical furnace body with graphite electrodes installed inside. The input alternating current generates an arc between the lower end of the electrode and the metal charge, thereby heating and melting the charge.

Principle of The Steelmaking Electric Arc Furnace
Is mainly based on the following steps:
-
Arc generation:
Graphite electrodes are installed inside the electric arc furnaces. When the current passes through these electrodes, the current forms a high-intensity arc between the electrode and the charge. This arc can reach a temperature of up to 3000°C.
-
Heating the charge:
The high temperature generated by the arc rapidly heats the metal scrap, ore and other additives in the furnace and eventually melts them. In the steelmaking electric furnace, the charge is usually scrap steel, molten iron or other alloy materials.
-
Smelting reaction:
During the melting process, the charge reacts chemically with the flux (such as limestone) and alloying elements to remove impurities and adjust the composition of the steel. It helps to form slag to remove impurity elements.
-
Temperature control:
During the melting process, the temperature in the electric furnace can be controlled by adjusting the input of the current and arc to achieve the desired properties of the molten steel.
-
Steel tapping:
After a certain period of melting, the molten steel in the EAF reaches the specified chemical composition and temperature, and can be taken out by pouring or casting at the furnace mouth for subsequent processing.
Advantages of Electric Arc Furnaces
- Production flexibility: A variety of raw materials (such as scrap steel, alloys, etc.) can be used.
- Environmental protection: Compared with the traditional converter process, electric arc furnaces are more environmentally friendly and emit less carbon dioxide.
- High energy efficiency: Industrial electric arc furnace have high energy utilization, especially when recycling waste materials.

Electric Arc Furnace Dust Recycling
Ladle refining of refining furnace, also known as off-furnace refining, is a process in which molten steel, after primary refining in a converter or electric furnace, is transferred to a ladle for secondary refining. This process involves deoxidation, desulfurization, composition adjustment, and temperature control.
The Role of Ladle in Refining Furnace
The submerged arc furnace cover is a functional covering designed specifically for submerged arc furnaces. Its performance directly impacts the furnace's overall operating efficiency, safety, and service life.
In the prior art, two main types of furnace roofs are commonly used in the ferroalloy field: 1. Non-water-cooled, enclosed flat furnace roof with a hanging brick structure; 2. Semi-enclosed, water-cooled, tower-type roof with a tower structure.
